Build the open genomic stack

We're a small, focused team building the only ISO genomic standard and the production software that runs on top of it. If you like meaningful problems, fast feedback loops and shipping real things for clinical labs, talk to us.

Why GenomSys

A small team, real impact

GenomSys is the company behind the ISO/IEC 23092 MPEG‑G standard — the only open international standard for genomic data, built by the group with three decades of media-compression standards behind it. We work with hospitals, research institutes and industrial partners across Europe, and our software ships into clinical environments where correctness, performance and privacy all matter.

01

Standards-level work

Contribute to a living international standard. Your code influences how genomic data is represented across the industry.

02

Cross-disciplinary teams

Work with engineers, bioinformaticians, clinicians and standardisation experts — not just one of those silos.

03

European footprint

Offices in Milan and Monza. Most roles support hybrid work with regular in-person collaboration.

Junior / Mid-Level Software Engineer

CC++Rust
Milan · Italy · Full-time · On-site / Hybrid

Help build the next generation of MPEG‑G tooling — high-performance, standards-compliant software at the heart of GenomSys' genomic platform.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement and maintain core libraries of the MPEG‑G Suite in C / C++ / Rust.
  • Work on compression, parsing and streaming of genomic data at scale.
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians, standards engineers and clinical partners.
  • Write the tests, benchmarks and documentation that make the codebase a pleasure to work in.

What we look for

  • Solid grasp of at least one systems-programming language (C, C++ or Rust).
  • Comfortable on the command line and in a Linux environment.
  • A pragmatic engineer's eye for performance, memory and correctness.
  • Curiosity about genomics is a strong plus — prior experience is not required.

Nice to have

  • Background in bioinformatics, signal processing or data compression.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 23092 (MPEG‑G) or other media/genomic standards.
  • Exposure to clinical software lifecycles (ISO 13485 / IEC 62304).
